The film was written and directed by Michael Chrichton, creator of such other science-fiction work as ''Jurassic Park'' and ''Sphere''. The plot concerns a futuristic theme park named [[Delos]], which is divided into "WesternWorld," "MedievalWorld," and "RomanWorld." These parks are staffed almost entirely by robots, created to serve every whim of the vacationers. While never stated explicitly, the prime uses of these robots are to provide guests with sex upon request, and to provide adversaries to murder and destroy.
