Hacking

A fembot being hacked.

Hacking is the act of forcefully or unexpectedly gaining access to a robot's operating system, usually with the intention to reprogram them and take control of the fembot. In erotic fiction this is sometimes used as a means of revealing that a character is a robot. This revelation is sometimes a surprise to both the characters around the robot as well as the robot themselves. In most cases hacking carries with it heavy connotations of BDSM and Non-consensual sexual relations. Many erotic fictions write this as a fembot coming to realize that she is not a person, but rather an object.

There is, however, another side to the hacking trope. Occasionally hacking will be employed as a means of liberating a fembot from restrictive programming and protocols. For example, a fembot that was found discarded in a dump might still be programmed to be loyal to their previous owner until they are reprogrammed, as part of that a new user might need to "hack" through their security systems and reprogram her. In these cases the fembot can either have their owner replaced by a new person, or in some cases, be hacked to be fully independent and "own" themselves.

In fiction

The multi-part series Virus_Alert centers around the eponimous virus and a large amount of hacking.
