Manip is a shortened form of the term "Manipulation" or "Photomanipulation" and refers to the process of using software to manipulate an image to add fembot elements.Popular choices for software include Photoshop, GIMP, and Paint.net.

The process for making a manip generally includes finding a source image, then employing a number of techniques to add fembot elements such as an Access panel, Faceoff, or removing limbs to portray either Assembly, Disassembly, or Damage.
