I rolled my eyes and looked to the nurse, "you've obviously got me in the wrong place: I'm not a robot." "Oh my, let me check." She cocked her head briefly then added, "you are in the correct place." She went to the new robot and, with the shears, cut off her dress with rapid efficiency. "Uh, hello? I'm human?" I protested again. "Check again, sister," the other robot said, now naked. She gestured toward my midriff. I strained to see down my body but could only get a glimpse of flesh-colored plastic draped over one side. "Whatever, robot," I said to her with a disrespectful tone. The nurse plunged the shears into the robot's belly and cut out a large rectangle, flopping it to one side. She put down the shears and walked out the room. The robot looked to me, "you don't know how this works, do you? They'll copy you out into a new body then disassemble you." "Yeah, for robots like you." "You'll see." |
