As it must be for any independently operating android, no matter how advanced, Sophia's home ASU is the hub of her existence. Based around a computing core far more powerful than her internal CPU, the ASU not only backs up the robot woman's memories and personality but also completely 're-authors' her on a daily basis, much like a bio-human's subconscious. The millions of tiny programming changes based on her daily memory files allow her to exist as a true synthetic person rather than a robot drone with fixed parameters.
Unlike the shared droid support bays at her workplace or the extensive servicing facilities at ehr maintenance facility, Sophia's home ASU is the only external system with complete and unrestricted access to her systems. Unable to function for more than a day or so without its support she has no choice but to surrender to its control, often standing fixedly beside the small cabinet for hours at a time as she is reprogrammed. Although she routinely allows friends and colleagues to use her personal remote, only a very few people have a password to her ASU. The remote overrides her internal control and is useful for emergencies or sometimes just for convenience. As a machine, she has no concerns with being put into standby when not required or 'mode shifted' at work and is reassured to know that someone nearby can simply tum her off in the rare event of a malfunction. Her best friend, a work colleague band her boyfriend each have ASU passwords that allow ti to make essential alterations to 'her'. She becomes aware of any changes they have saved when she connects and is then programmed, regardless of her own preference. For now Sophia is simply recharging before her evening. |
