When a robot is considered to be self aware it means that they know that they are a robot. Depending on the programming of the robot in question they may either freely acknowledge this information or they may deny it. In denying it they are simply telling others that they are not a robot even though they are aware of what they are. This is different from being a sleeper which is a robot that does not know they are a robot. Denying their self-aware nature simply means that htey know they are a robot but are actively trying to convince others around them that they are not.
An openly self aware robot will know that they are a machine as well as make no effort to hide that nature from others around them. The robot will likely not go out of their way to tell others that they are a robot, but will also not deny it should someone discover that they are a robot.
