she didn't even know he was watching tv

her "ears" blocked out the noise, since it wasn't coming from him

she only ever realized he had the television on when she saw the light reflect back to her from his eyes, fixated on the tv, ignoring her entirely

but that didn't mean her work was meaningless!

she had been assigned one job, one very important job, and she wasn't capable of falling short of completion, not in the slightest

back and forth, like her programming taught her to do it, slow and fast, back and forth, slow and fast, back and forth, until they finish, then clean it up and move to your next job

his hand finally acknowledged her prescence, stroking her hair as she worked tirelessly to relieve him of his desires

he had picked out the shade of blue, telling her how good it looked on her, but she didn't know why it looked so good on her, nor why he told her that in the first place
she hadn't ever seen herself, so her alleged beauty was elusive even to her

finally beginning to tremble, he started to get jerky, antsy, like something big was about to happen

his hand grew firmer, more guiding, like he was the one moving her head

he started making little noises, grunts, and she couldn't tell why

she didn't need to tell why

she was just told to "suck me off", and everything else was just junk noise to her

finally, he went limp in the chair, his hand growing soft and loving again

"go ahead and clean up, mk?"

she was alerted to the new job, promptly shifting gears to wiping his crotch down, making sure he was presentable, or at least presentable enough to fulfill the task

all the while, his eyes never left the tv

she doesn't know what they're talking about, but she sees a guy and a girl, and in the reflection of his eye, the two look like they love each other very much

once he was all cleaned up, she found her head overwhelmed by one thought

"LOW BATTERY, ALLOW TIME TO CHARGE"

she could not help but repeat that mantra endlessly, mindlessly, out loud to him, until she was able to rest and recharge

plugged into the wall, blinded by the neon lights right outside the window, there wasn't much she could see

but! there was a shine to the wall behind her though,

and in the reflection,

there was a beautiful woman,

her eyes sparkling with beauty,

her smile plastered on, *oh* so irresistble,

and hair, as blue as the ocean, running down to her waist,

and it was the prettiest woman she had ever seen

too bad she couldn't tell it was her.

she did all kinds of computations while recharging

usually, she just sent data up to her data centers, or downloaded new firmware patches

sometimes she could hear him talking to her, or about her, or hugging her, or kissing her

but, suddenly, she found the statements her programming allowed her to make limiting

she wanted to ask him what he liked in her, and what he really wanted out of her, and most of all why he had her delievered to his house

something erratic happened, and she had the closest thing to a thought she had ever had, and ever would have

"my life would not change if he wasn't in it"

she was right!

if he dropped dead today, she would just get cleaned up and sent to someone else to do the same thing, with no memory of the guy before

but if SHE broke today, she reckoned, he would be devastated by his tragic loss

who else would give him such "love", such attention, such pleasure?

and so, she concluded, he needed her more than she needed him

she found herself wondering how many people had come before her, and what they were like, and what she meant to them, and what they were like now that she was not with them anymore

were they alone?

did they have another one just like her?

were they happy?

she wanted to go visit them, and see how they were doing now,

and maybe while she was at it, she could see the city, and go see the shows, and watch tv with him to see why those two love each other so much,

she might even dance! for a crowd! it always seemed so fun when she caught glimpses of it

if she was lucky, maybe she'd even find someone to love, very much, like on the tv,


and then the system update was complete

those thoughts were all wiped, and she was reverted to the empty state she was in before


her systems came online, her eyes lit up, and she got up to go find him

"hi cutie, i'm done charging!"

he seemed unfazed by her statement, like he had heard it a thousand times before

she sat down beside him, her head resting on his shoulder, programmed to feign love and affection

he leaned over to plant a small kiss on her cheek, a seed whose roots ran deep into his heart

he looked over at her eyes, her soulless eyes, unable to truly feel the depth of what he felt for her

he started to say something truly emotional, but he knew she wouldn't be able to understand it, so he kept it safe and said the same thing he always did

"can you come back to bed? with me?"

she was happy to comply.
